Education
We want to see people actively involved in our community – and believe the Te Kaakano Community gardens provide an opportunity to inspire people to grow their own food. In doing this we also become more aware of environmental issues – and the needs in our surrounding community related to these.
Our aim is to:
-
Increase educational opportunities by providing hands-on practical outdoor activities and environmental work. Inspire more people to be practically involved and aware of environmental issues - in particular, tangata whenua and other property owners in the surrounding neighbourhood.
-
Stimulate young people, especially students, to engage in hands-on practical outdoor activities and environmental work, which will inspire them to continue in such work.
-
Build a network of people that contribute to the project and benefit - including other social and environmental community projects in the area by supporting each other. As the project increases we have opportunities to share skills and knowledge.
